Below are brief outlines of the projects the IT and New Media team are working on directly or contributing our expertise to. Click on the links to learn more.
A site for newcomers to Ontario – with an amazing breadth of information for those starting their life here. There is a great Discussion area with over 15000 members. We have just introduced mapping of local organizations and will be launching a new look and TV ads in Fall 2009.
More than just the French version of Settlement.Org. A site for French-speaking newcomers in Ontario.
The goal of this project is to create an online resource with hundreds of settlement-related documents in English, French as well as Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Gujarati, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil and Urdu. This is an ambitious project which will see us providing 11 fully dynamic multilingual websites – all controlled by one incredible custom built Content Management System.
A new site for newcomer youth. Young immigrants are a new audience for us and developing a site that will stand out is going to be a challenge. We have also created a site for Francophone youth with specific content created just for them.
OTIS (Online Tracking and Information System)
A data entry system for some CIC-funded workers. This project is more interesting than it sounds, I promise. This year we are hoping to transform it into a much more useful client management and reporting tool.
At Work / Au Travail
Professional Development/Sector Resources for those working with newcomers to Ontario. These sites will be (re)launched this year using the Drupal CMS. The staff on these sites are very big into social media and the new sites will reflect that.
